Mental Health Support Team (MHST) support
‘What are the Mental Health Support Teams?
Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) have been created to offer early intervention, low intensity, mental health support within schools for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) were established from the ‘Transforming children and young people’s mental health provision: a Green Paper, 2017’, which recognised that providing support in school would improve children & young people’s access to early mental health and wellbeing support.
What can the MHST support with?
There are many things the MHST can help with. This can be anxiety, low mood, behavioural difficulties, sleep hygiene, anger, phobias or school avoidance. Where needs are more complex, they may need to refer a young person onto another team or service that is better placed to help.
What next?
If you think your child would benefit from this service and you would like to discuss a referral then please contact Helena Bull, Deputy Principal and Mental Health Lead.
